"Three finger tap" does not work properly

Describe the bug

I’ve configured "Three finger tap" as a right click, but it seems to constantly fight againt the system default behavior (looking things up).

for example, in the edge browser, the three finger tap always triggers both a right click and a look-up pop-up menu. in other apps (like finder), it mostly triggers a right click, but sometimes a look-up would crop up or even both. it’s very random.

when i disable the three finger tap default behavior in system settings, this gesture would not work at all, and be registered simply as a left click.

i’ve also configured moving three finger as drag in the system settings (just some additional info)

Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):

magic trackpad

As for all BTT gestures, you need to disable the conflicting system gestures otherwise it will not work

but the problem is, if i disable the conflicting system gesture, then three finger tap would not work and simply be registered as a left click. neither the btt configured behavior nor the system default behavior would happen.

that would be weird, BTT’s three finger tap is completely independent of the system one. Maybe enable the “Show HUD when triggered” option to see whether it is actually registering.

I actually did, and I’m testing it right now and as expected, if i disable the conflicting system gesture, nothing happens; if i enable it, then it’s either: a) a look-up pop-up menu without HUD, b) a right click menu with HUD, or c) look-up pop-up menu, right click menu, HUD, three things at a time

Mh unfortunately I have no idea what could cause this. This is one of the oldest gestures in BTT and should definitely work.

Do you maybe have three finger dragging enabled in System Settings => Accessibility?

yes i have

Ah, unfortunately three finger dragging is in general causing a lot of issues because it changes the fundamental behavior of the trackpad (which is why Apple hid it in the accessibility settings at some point)

You can try enabling this option which might make it work better, but various gestures will fail with three finger dragging enabled:

actually i’ve just found this one. it seems to be the same issue from the description, even though it’s single 3 finger tap here instead of double, and i’ve never configured anything complicated

Ah I see. I’ve enabled this one as well in the btt settings.

maybe i’ll have to work around it :sob:
