The Snippet Manager could be improved

@Andreas_Hegenberg The Sinppets Manager is a masterpiece ... but one that is unfortunately not yet complete :slightly_smiling_face:

I'm actually only missing two things:

  1. I would like to be able to edit a “file/text” without BTT making a copy of it. So, edit the original.

  2. I would like to be able to create a new (empty) file without having to copy anything.

Maybe when you have some time :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey @Frank1 , what are you referring as "The Snippet Manager"? The clipboard manager and its Snippet functionality or ?

Yes, I probably used the wrong terms.

I think so, because BTT doesn't have anything else that could be called snippet manager

@Frank1 make sure this option is NOT checked, then it should edit the original!

Adding new items directly in the snippet group is a good idea, will add that!

Ok, I have unchecked that.

Unfortunately not.

I copy text to the clipboard. Then I move the document (or what should I call it?) to a snippet folder. If I now add text, the text does not remain in this document.

Maybe I'm missing something, is that not how it behaves for you?:

I did not see “finish editing” and did not click on it. Now it works

But sometimes this column is very narrow for me. Is the confirmation necessary? Wouldn't changing the document be enough to save?

weird, it should also save when switching to a different snippet. Or are you closing the window immediately? Maybe that case I haven't handled yet

Yes, sometimes I close the window directly ... but that's ok, I know now. Thank you very much!

And don't forget this

I just tried but here it also seems to save in that case. Maybe you can figure out when it doesn't save, then I can fix it.

on it !

I am no longer able to reproduce this “error”. That's good. It probably doesn't even exist. After changing the settings, BTT sometimes needs some time to implement this (at least for me) so that the old settings are still active for a while. I always forget this because I am impatient. :innocent:

you can now right-click a snippet group in 5.361 to add a new empty item!

Nice, thanks Andreas.

If you could also choose the font and its size, then I would be really happy

Ah, actually I would like a real text editor, something like TextEdit. But that's probably too much to ask?

Ah well, there you go (v5.367 uploading now):

Note: this is an example of private API

Ehhhh, Andreas, my man, thank you very much! This is my lucky day. The snippet manager (yes I call it like that) is so fantastically versatile.

Different triggers can be used to display different views. Unfortunately only one at a time. Wouldn't it be great to be able to open several views at the same time and compare the content? That would turn it into a little planning tool usable for everything and more.

PS: I love private API :sparkling_heart:

unfortunately opening more than one of these windows is hard with the current architecture, you can however detach views:

Yes, that is a good workaround. :slightly_smiling_face:

Last question, how do I make a backup of all snippets? If possible the whole folder structure.

currently you would need to copy these three files as there is no automated backup integrated yet:

~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool/BTTClipboardManager_20241210.sqlite
~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool/BTTClipboardManager_20241210.sqlite-shm
~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool/BTTClipboardManager_20241210.sqlite-wal

Go there via Finder => Go => Go to Folder, make sure to include the ~. However this will be a copy of your whole clipboard manager contents, not only the snippets.
I'll probably add some way to export soon.

If someone wants to use the new possibilities to edit text. Clicking only works below the red line (at least for me). Otherwise you might think it doesn't work. :slightly_smiling_face:

mhm weird it seems to work everywhere here. Could you post a screenshot of the whole top area?
