Re-assurance request, please

Macos 15.6 on M4 Studio.

I've read this thread, but wasn't really able to reach an unambiguous conclusion on the latest full position: will BTT (which I am almost ready to buy) work with my MX Master 3S mouse, please?

Secondly, in the friendliest possible spirit, can I safely ignore posts like these? IOW is the support good; are the bugs few and quickly squashed? No criticism intended. I just want to be sure that BTT is as good for everyone as all the other reviews I've read suggest it is!

TIA… !

there is a free 45 day trial so plenty of time to evaluate.

The Logitech mouses currently work best without the logitech software installed. Once the logitech tools are installed it can be tricky to catch the mouse events with BTT

Thanks, Andreas!

I appreciate and understand that you can't possibly be expected to account for and respond to every critical comment  . But there do seem to be several sites suggesting bugs are common… perhaps that's 'old news' ?!

If I remove the Logi Options + I wouldn't get a warning of a low battery, would I? Any way around that, do you think, please?

TIA!

Sure there are always bugs
However there are also > 100k daily active users with an infinite amount of possible setups. Most things I quickly fix once they are reported.

Unfortunately I don't know about that. I think if you are just looking for logitech customization tools there might currently be better options. However BTT's native logitech protocol implementation has made big steps forward during the last weeks, I hope I'll soon be able to release this (then BTT can completely replace the logitech apps).

Thanks, Andreas - I can see how true that is.

Time to give it a try

Andreas,

So there is some customization for the MX Master 3S mouse?

the native low level logitech protocol is not yet enabled in BTT. Currently only higher level remapping is possible - and whether that works depends on the Logitech software. I can check with my MX Master 3S tomorrow what's the current state of BTT with installed Logitech software

Andreas,

If you would, please, I'd very much appreciate it.

I plan to buy BTT (lifetime) anyway, I think - especially after watching 'reviews' like this  .

I chose the MX Master 3S because it seemed to be ergonomically and 'electronically' superior to anything else. I really only use scroll and right-click which are 'extra' to the standard mouse operations.

At this point (with a brand new Studio, Magic keyboard and Magic Trackpad) I'm no longer wedded to the Logitech… that is today: if there is a better mouse - especially one that already has wider integration with BTT - I'd definitely consider it!

Thank you again, Andreas!

Thanks again, @Andreas_Hegenberg !

I've now downloaded the 45-day trial version of BTT.

Am anxious to experiment with it and my mouse  .

I use BetterMouse alongside BTT (in fact I use BTT to run BT when my logitech keyboards connect). In my case I am mostly focused on logitech keyboards (where to get function key inversion I am supposed to run the bloated turd that is logi+). BetterMouse has good logitech support (the dev responds to emails quickly, and the cost is low), and BTT totally rocks for everything, so great combination.

If BTT can cover this sort of low-level logitech tweaking in the future, great, but BT is a good app nevertheless...

Thanks, @iandol - I was impressed with BetterMouse when I first came across it; but worried that:

  1. I might lose some of the MX Master 3S's functionality (especially low battery and horizontal scrolling - not to mention the two vertical scrolling modes)
  2. there would be conflicts… after all, this is pretty low level stuff!

Need I worry?

Or, to put it another way, which of the MX Master 3S's functionality would/could I lose if I uninstalled Logi Options +?!

I don't have a MX Master 3S as I am left-paw and Logitech don't support us freaks. I do use BM with a Logitech G304 + keyboard and BM does show battery for both which macOS does not:

It even supports profiles defined by logi+ to use on my mouse too, but they need to be made in logi+ first

Custom setup is handled for my side buttons:

I've seen no conflicts whatsoever, though the G304 is not my main mouse and only use it at home.

Hello again, @iandol - and very many thanks for taking the time and trouble to help me with this.

I now know what I have to do  . I also use AirBuddy, which will show battery levels as well.

Your thorough illustrations of using BM say it all!

Freaks? NEVER!

When looking for an alternative to the MX Master 3S (I didn't find anything better - at least for the way I work) that point was made over and over again. So if there were a +1 for diversity of handedness, I'd add my say  .

Thanks again.

@Andreas_Hegenberg, @iandol

Thanking you again for your help so far…

I have uninstalled the Logi Options + software.

Everything works except buttons what Better Touch Tool detects as buttons 3 and 4, the Forward/Back buttons (#10 here).

Any tips, please, on how I can get BTT to map those to what I assume are browser forward and back in history? (Or any other functionality, for that matter… that browser use not essential.)

I can't get BM to work in ratchet mode without making a banging and clicking noise much louder and more irregular than without it.

I know now that I shall certainly buy a lifetime for BTT

Thanks in advance for your, or anyone's, help here…!

As I understood from Andreas' post the low level work is not yet enabled in BTT, so you'll need to wait. If you have a problem with BM, mail the developer a she/he is pretty helpful.

@iandol,

Yes, thanks. I'm not familiar enough with what counts as high and what as low level - from this post of @Andreas_Hegenberg's a week ago:

That would be helpful.

I have now bought lifetimes for both BM and BTT. Just want to get the most out of each :-).

If you just need the page back / page forward you can assign the "3F Swipe Left (Page Back)" and "3F Swipe Right (Page Forward)" actions to these buttons.

I'm not in office this week, can give more guidance next week!

Very many thanks, @Andreas_Hegenberg. Understood. I'm sorry if I sounded impatient; I wasn't/am not. Your help much appreciated  !

Hi @Andreas_Hegenberg , I'm newbie to BTT. AFAIK, I would say that I will be interested in low level logitech protocol. I have an MX Vertical Mouse and the top button does not work (but it works on BetterMouse). Let me know if you need some help on this, I will be happy to help in this issue to get recognized the button. Karabiner-EventViewer gives this exit if the top button (I don't know if you would prefer other type of output to follow this):
