See my post at Search for a shortcut I already made - #3 by tschoepler
A better search has been on my TODO list for quite a while, but it's also really hard to implement. Maybe at some point!
hey andreas. how about just making cmd+f trigger focus of the search field? that would have already helped me discover the feature in the first place
also, just in case you misunderstood me: i dont mean that you improve the search feature itself. simply put it more at the top where i guess most people naturally consider a global search to be. but in case that is what you meant then maybe just consider the cmd+f shortcut AND add it to the edit menu as an item as in finder and other tools
the thing is it is currently not a global search. It only searches the first level of items, no folders, not across different apps, cags etc.
It's more like a filter and these are usually on the bottom (see e.g. Xcode)
From cmd+f I'd personally expect a real global search (which is also what I would like to have in BTT, but it's a bit complicated)
AH! i see. well yeah, then i guess you are right. maybe then you should change the placeholder text to "Filter" as in xcode so people know what to expect? but those are just quick shots/thoughts. maybe the majority of users are fine with it and it is just me
maybe it is also the magnifying glass icon that lead me to wrong conclusions/mental model.
