Testing on 4.702 on both Studio and Macbook
Describe the bug
Hello!
I've had the haptic response for normal clicks on 2 - 5 fingers set to "light feedback" since I can remember. It always behaved as normal one finger click on the trackpad. And it is working fine on the macbooks integrated trackpad, but after sequoia update, it changed on mac Studios external trackpad. It is now all mushy and clicky at all (like only a release click?). I have the same settings on both macbook and the studio, restarted and updated the BTT on studio, restarted studio, no change.
Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):
External trackpad on Mac Studio

If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem. (You can just paste or drag them here)
Device information:
- Type of Mac: Mac Studio Apple M2 Max
- macOS version: 15.0 (24A335)
- BetterTouchTool version: 4.702
Additional information (e.g. crash logs, related issues, etc.):
I've now tried to repair and reconnect the trackpad to the macbook, and it behaves exactly the same as on the studio, e.g. the clicks are different from the internal trackpad
Could you go to help => export diagnostic debug information and send the result to me via andreas@folivora.ai? Possibly that trackpad type is not yet in my list for the sequoia workarounds.
(however all of this haptics stuff is undocumented, it's very possible apple changed it. Have you tried selecting one of the other feedback options?)
Sent! Thank you for quick response
Weird, seems to be a standard magic trackpad 2, same type I'm using. It does seem to feel normal/like before here.
Could you check whether connecting it via USB makes any difference?
No, still the same "mushy" feeling to the click.
Maybe I just don't understand or am not sensitive enough to notice
Do you get exactly two stages of the haptic feedback (click & release?) Or is there any more or less haptic?
Let me try and explain as best as I could.
What I want to achieve is, to have the same response on 1 finger click (default out of box trackpad feedback) and on 2,3,4 finger clicks. This worked when having the response set as Light Feedback. This works when making the presses in application where I do not have BTT actions set.
When concentrating fully on the clicks, it has both press and release feedback, it just maybe 50% softer?
Ah ok, then at least it is not a fundamental problem with the technique BTT uses. I think this was already the case in the past, but maybe it's more noticeable now on the Magic Trackpad. There definitely have been some changes on Apple's side.
I'll try to add some more variations of that haptic that uses a little more actuation and maybe offer a way to set different feedback on external trackpads.
In v4.703 (available in 10 min) I modified the "BTT Default Normal Click" to what I hope feels more like the system default (Apple has probably sound & haptics engineers to get that sound & haptic right, for me it's just trial & error )
I'll update the UI soon to make this more configurable!
It is a bit stronger, but close enough! Thank you very much for swift response!
I think it also feels a bit stronger to me. I'll try to make it just a little less strong
(it's pretty cool how this stuff works combining sound & vibration to make it feel like a real click...)
So I've now updated, and it is back to the time I reported it. Also I'm seeing another newer version, but everytime I update, it stays on the previous one
Ah sorry for some reason the build number didn't update. I'll fix that.
What do you mean by "back to the time reported"?
Now I don't see any new version.
I mean that the feedback is now not "fixed", and is in the same state as I was first reporting it.
do you still have it set to "Default Normal Click" ?
yes, haven't touched it.
Is it possible that the versioning issue made me use older build?
Mhm maybe wait a few minutes until the version fixed build (4.707) is available, then let's see!
