Hi, i'm getting a popup saying "The file cannot be found" every minute or so and Better Touch Tools is not showing up. I"m not sure what to do. I can try and reinstall the app, but would that remove all my configurations? This happened when I tried to make a Dock Icon Context Menu
Just uploaded to the latest version, but can't even get BTT to show to check any other information!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Before bug reporting, please make sure you have tried the latest (alpha) version of BetterTouchTool and that you have already tried to restart your system :-). If you encounter a crash, please attach a crash log from the macOS Console.app from the "User Diagnostic Reports" section.

I recently had saved my profile so I wasnt' going to lose much so I took the chance and reinstalled and not only is my configurations still there, it's working now. So feel free to close this, thank you!
Glad you got it resolved, but could you maybe elaborate the steps you took to make a Dock Icon Context Menu? I'd like to reproduce the issue if possible
Sure! I just tried it again and it did it again, so I'm gonna have to redownload the app again.
What I did:
- Go to Automation Center
- New Trigger
- Dock Icon Trigger
- Switch to "Context Menu" option at the top of the Actions area
- Click "Configure for Context Menu"
- Try to add a new content item and it shuts down and gives that error.
Not working to redownload this time. It starts with that error message appearing and never actually loads BTT
Thanks! Should be fixed in 5.579, will be available via Index of /releases in about 10 minutes.
Got it, was able to redownload that version and will test in a bit and let you know!
So I'm not getting any errors, but what is supposed to happen? Where is the context menu supposed to appear? Thanks!
Custom context menu on a custom Dock icon is something I have not yet tried
It seems to work here (showing when clicking the custom Dock icon), but only if the BTT UI is closed
Hmm, doesn't seem to work for me, but I will keep trying. I love the idea!
Hey, problem occurred again during testing. I tried to add one and now BTT just doesn't open. For a bit I was getting the following error, but now nothing and it's not opening, even when I redownload it! @Andreas_Hegenberg
could you check whether there is a crashlog in the macOS console.app's crash report section?
you can launch it via spotlight, enter "console"
Any news on this? I still can't download Better Touch Tools cause all that opens is the icon for dock element.
I think it should be fixed in the latest alphas (e.g. 5.598 - Index of /releases)
If it is not you might need to enter safe mode to delete what has been set up. Entering safe mode can be done via this terminal command:
defaults write com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool BTTSafeModeEnabled YES
This needs to be disabled again (while BTT is quit) after the issue has been resolved:
defaults write com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool BTTSafeModeEnabled NO
You are brilliant! Thank you so much! That worked with the latest alphas version. Am I still okay to try the dock trigger or should I wait?
you can always try, entering safe mode should allow you to get out of most bad situations
I can also post an example preset that shows a context menu if you want?
Yes please, that would be amazing, thank you! and okay, good to know about safe mode!
You are so quick on your response and fixes, i really appreciate it!
