Disabling Swipe left/right on messages in Apple Mail using Magic Mouse

Greetings, friends.

For the life of me, I haven’t been able to find a way to disable the message swipe left/right functions in Apple Mail when using a Magic Mouse. This will make the entire purchase of BetterTouchTool worthwhile. This doesn’t leave me feeling like there is a lot of hope:

Disabling “1 finger swipe left” or “1 finger swipe right” has no effect on the message list.

I just had a conversation about this the other day. He’s working on it.

That’s awesome to hear. Any notion if @Andreas_Hegenberg is planning on releasing before the rest of my 43 day trial ends :slight_smile: ?

Unfortunately, I am notion-free.

Does this work for you?

block_mail_magic_mouse.bttpreset (6.2 KB)

It contains a scroll modifier to block horizontal scrolling, set specifically for Mail and an advanced trigger condition that only enables the scroll modifier while hovering the message list:

I’ve been away from my home computer all day, and will get back to you as soon as I can with this.

Thanks, @Andreas_Hegenberg, but this does not work.

it seems to work fine here, which macOS version are you on? You might need to adapt the condition (or remove it ) on < macOS 26

I am on 26.4 on that machine.

Is there any way I can continue to engage with you @Andreas_Hegenberg so that we can get this to work?

Have you tried without the condition already? Maybe post some screenshots of your setup.

@Andreas_Hegenberg ,

With this enabled…

…this still happens.

@Andreas_Hegenberg any ideas or update?

no, unfortunately not. It is working fine here. Have you tried to remove the advanced trigger condition to see whether it works without that.

I have; that's actually what I originally tried on my own. It still allows the swipe. Is it possible I am missing something? I am a technically experienced user, but not of this software, and it seems that I could be missing something obvious. This is what my running configuration looks like when using the preset you designed for me:

Oh my gosh. I hope you will laugh with me and not at me. I am big on acting on windows in the background without bringing them into focus. I had BTT in the foreground when I was testing. When I realized that, and brought Mail into the foreground, the preset worked. Of course. I am sorry. Registration coming next!

I spoke too soon. When I shut down BTT and relaunch it, the preset no longer works....even with Mail in the foreground...
