Constant Crashing

Note:
Before bug reporting, please make sure you have tried the latest (alpha) version of BetterTouchTool and that you have already tried to restart your system :-). If you encounter a crash, please attach a crash log from the macOS Console.app's "Crash Reports" section.


Describe the bug
When I start better-touch-tool now it works for some random amount of time (but never more than an hour) before it stops responding:

This behavior started happening in the current Beta cycle for macOS 26.4 beta. I had held off reporting this until I had at least one additional beta release under the belt but now I do I see no improvement in this issue.

I know it’s my issue cuz I signed up for the beta but I figured you’d want it on your radar at the very least. Also if you have any suggestions on how I might be able to work around this issues better I’d be forever grateful as this is pretty crippling for me.


**Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):

Keyboard shortcuts are what’s impacting me but I suspect all services are crashed. I can’t even bring up the better-touch-tool UI at all.**

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: M4 Max with 128gb RAM
  • macOS version: Version 26.4 Beta (25E5223i)
  • BetterTouchTool version: unfortunately i’m not sure I can do this as the UI is completely unavailable. I downloaded the latest on Feb 28th (64.3mb compressed, 146.4mb uncompressed).

**Additional information (e.g. crash logs, related issues, etc.):

My machine is a M4 Max with 128gb RAM. I did run system diagnostics but since the file is quite large I’m not attaching here but happy to share if it helps.**

I forgot to mention that my way of working around this is to detect when my keyboard shortcuts stop working, load Activity Monitor and Force Kill all better-touch processes and then restart. Unfortunately this tends to only last about 15 minutes.

I believe my bug report is probably a DUP of BetterTouchTool becomes “Not Responding” immediately after launch. Sorry, i did review the similarly titled ones but I guess this one slipped through. If this other one is right though, this appears NOT to be a macOS beta issue.

have you already tried the latest BTT alpha? (6.230) If so, could you take a sample of the BetterTouchTool process when this happens?

You can use this terminal command (which will save a btt.txt to your desktop that you can post here):

sample BetterTouchTool > ~/Desktop/btt.txt

I hadn’t tried the alpha but just downloaded. On first blush it’s an improvement as I can get the UI pulldown menu now. Will try it out this afternoon to see if it holds up.
