BTT Floating Window Not in Focus for Typinator

Hi all,

I’ve been using BetterTouchTool alongside Typinator for a while now, and I’ve run into a strange issue I’m hoping someone here can help with or shed some light on.

When I type into a BetterTouchTool floating window, Typinator sometimes expands text snippets in the background application instead of the floating window. The problem seems to stem from macOS still recognizing the background app (say, AppA) as the “active” one, even though I’m clearly typing into the BTT floating window.

It doesn’t happen every time, but often enough to be frustrating. Occasionally restarting BTT and Typinator helps temporarily, but not consistently.

I'm wondering:

  • Is there a way for BTT to make its floating window register as the frontmost (or active) app while typing?
  • Or is there an alternative way to handle input in floating windows that avoids this focus issue?

Would really appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Thanks!

I would say this is a bug in Typinator. Apps do not need to get full focus in order to get keyboard focus. Floating menus intentionally don't steal the full focus from other apps.

You could check whether this option makes a difference:

thanks will try it for a few days and see if the issue resolves.

By the way, was there a change in the way floating view behave and float over other apps. Lately, when i open a floating view over a maximized app, it doesn't show up and only opens on a non maximized window. Earlier, it used to show up everywhere
