"Your custom touch bar is currently hidden" won't go away

Describe the bug

I just reinstalled BTT and can't get rid of this message: "Your custom touch bar is currently hidden"

Previously to this version, when I restarted BTT, the "Your custom touch bar is currently hidden" message would disappear, and the straggling escape button on the touchbar would dispappear (I want the touchbar all black and empty). Now, the escape button remains, and the message does as well.

What's strange is that it says the custom touch bar is hidden, but I can still use the gestures that I defined. I just can't get rid of the escape button anymore, whereas I could previously. Even my keyboard shortcut for toggling BTT on and off doesn't do anything: BTT stays on regardless of what shortcut I try, unless I quit BTT of course.

Any advice?
