Why is shift + mouse scroll not working?

Hi, I am currently evaluating BTT. I would like to use the mouse scroll wheel to do some actions. But somehow shift + scroll doesn't work at all. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yeah have not been able to get past this limitation myself I think maybe macOS is hardwired to do horizontal scrolling with shift scroll and you can't change it, not even with other mods held down, in my experience. Would love to hear the developer chime in on this.

Yeah. I've downloaded and tried SteerMouse and it works fine, no problem at all. The thing is when BTT is active, shift scroll wheel is also deactivated in SteerMouse. I really like the floating menu capability of BTT, but the scroll wheel shortcuts are also important to me. So for now I think I will go with SteerMouse instead.

holy shit I found the solution toggle this in settings

Reporting back... seems that only worked for me for a bit until it got reverted again to the old behavior. It's all very confusing because I'm also using BetterMouse, which has a toggle for a setting related to this:

And me meddling with that (or with the "Enable Onboard Profiles" which changes my side buttons from mouse4,6 to mouse4,5; no idea why. I'm using GPW Superlight) reverted it.

I have not been able to get a clear picture of why it reverted.

However, I found a new potential solution by using a new toggle within Karabiner-Elements. If you disable the shift scroll event there pictured:

then you can bind it as you want - in any application as well as with other modifiers. But one drawback is that you will have to manually set the horizontal scroll binds within BetterTouchTool for the shift keys should you want to retain them, of course, and they are super janky compared to the default normal behaviour. The point being that you are now free to use any combo of modifier containing shift to bind with mouse scroll up and down, including the hyper key, which was probably the most annoying thing about this.

Anyway, it now seems that the change does not revert even though I revert this mouse option in Karabiner and even disable the mouse key modify events there (which is great since I have had bad experiences modifying mouse events with Karabiner). And yeah, so the current state is that it works, but I don't know why. But the other day, I think I was back to square one when I tried untoggling the setting I talked of:

So I'm not doing that again at least. Using an external mouse on macOS can literally drive one to madness.

(Especially since there could still be even more factors at play here, since for example, I realized yesterday that I had some leftovers of Logi Options on my computer and Mac Mouse Fix.)

If anyone could educate me on the reason why any of this is happening, it would be greatly appreciated. I must say that the silence from the developer on this issue, over many posts over many years, seems to me to be quite disconcerting. It is a paid app, after all.
