Vertical scrolling

I've been struggling with a problem for a while now:

In all applications mouse wheel up/down + CMD is configured to execute keystrokes UP and DOWN to move the selection in e.g. Finder or even Bettertouchtool… guess what.. up and down

In some applications mouse wheel up/down + CMD is remapped to different keystroke just because some applications use other keystrokes to move a selection up and down (e.g. Thunderbird uses b (backwards) and f (forwards)).

Now at least since macOS 14 this does not override the standard system behaviour of the mouse wheel which is of cause to scroll the window up and down. So what I end up seeing is that windows and selection are being scrolled up and down at the same time when using these mappings.

I would expect Bettertouchtool to override the standard system behaviour. Can this somehow be fixed, forced, enabled?

Affected input device: Normal Mouse

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: Mac Pro 2019, Mac Mini 2018, Macbook Pro 2015, Macbook Air 2020, Mac Pro 2023
  • macOS version: 14
  • BetterTouchTool version: 5.622

That should be default behavior (I just checked and it seems to work fine here on macOS 26).
Is yours configured like this (in the normal mouse section)?

You don’t have keystrokes configured?

the assigned action doesn't matter, it should never let the scroll events pass through. Unless I misunderstand the issue

But it does or my description is misleading

I can add that in applications that don’t use Arrows Up+Down for moving a selection up and down it does work as expected. I mentioned Thunderbird.

what kind of mouse are you using?

Logitech Performance MX

I can't seem to reproduce this here, but two things you could try (best use current BTT alpha >= 6.113)

1.) Try to enable this checkbox in the settings (or disable it if it is enabled):

2.) Try to add a scroll modifier that modifies the scroll speed to 0 when cmd is pressed:

Nope not working
