Hello
Haven't used BTT in quite awhile. I only really used it for window snapping, and now that I found myself wanting that feature again, I remembered the app and downloaded it.
I opened it, searched for the license import thing, and upon feeding my license to it, it informed me that it was too old for this version, and that I could continue either buying a new license, continuing trial, or downgrading to the latest version that my license works with.
Opting to download the latest version just opens a web browser window with an FTP listing of literally hundreds of versions zipped up, but no help on determining which version is the latest one for me. I don't remember when I bought the license, and it appears that BTT does. So what's this?
Adding to that, the trial period is now immediately canceled, so even if I weren't against this type of licensing, I couldn't even begin to get an understanding of which features, if any, I might benefit from if I were to buy a new license.
Is there any way to tell which version I need to download to be able to use my purchase?
Thanks
Ah true, the date was missing in current versions. With version 5.405 (uploading now) I added a message that shows your license eligibility date when downgrading.
Just out of curiosity:
How could anybody be against this type of licensing? I think it's the fairest system possible or would you prefer a subscription model? I will soon offer an additional option to purchase subscriptions via the upcoming Setapp marketplace if that would be better for you.
I started downloading old versions, skipping a year back each time, and very quickly it offered an actual downgrade. It's very old (I found out my license is from 2016), but it sorta works... Not quite, but sorta. Good to hear the new version at least downgrades properly
As to your question, I don't buy time-limited licenses at all, as I don't think they're fair. I'm pretty sure when I bought this license, it wasn't time-limited, but you've excluded your site from Archive.org (why?), so I can't confirm it, and it's possible I was drunk or something and didn't really pay attention before buying it.
Ah lifetime licenses have only been available since early 2018, all licenses before that only came with 2 years of updates (but you could keep using the last version received). That's probably why you didn't have a lifetime license. The old license terms can still be retrieved from https://folivora.ai/folivora/old_license_terms.pdf
(However the licenses from 2016 were also very cheap)
