BTT was updated through SetApp. After the update I lost all my recent settings and it reverted to an old backup. That is not the main issue though. When BTT is running the cursor/text entry freezes every once in a while and I’ve probably restarted BTT about 10 times today. Since the SetApp version is a few versions behind I thought I would try installing a trial version from the BTT website. It seems to work slightly better but it still crashes occasionally. I should note that I am on macOS Tahoe . BTT was working great before it automatically updated. The first time I started my Mac after the update I couldn’t do anything. I had to force shut it down using the power button. Is there any way to downgrade BTT until this is fixed?
sounds more like a Tahoe permission issue rather than an issue with the BTT version.
It also sounds like you were using the non-Setapp version of BTT before, because that would be the only way it could downgrade to an old backup automatically.
I’d try to quit BTT and then reset all BTT permissions with these terminal commands:
sudo tccutil reset All com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool
sudo tccutil reset All com.hegenberg.bettertouchtool-setapp
To figure out whether it was indeed an issue with mixing Setapp and non-setapp, you can run these terminal commands and post their output:
defaults read com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool BTTPreviousVersion
defaults read com.hegenberg.bettertouchtool-setapp BTTPreviousVersion
I will try your instructions but I will clarify my setup. I used the SetApp version from the time I got this computer in August. Yesterday when I came to work and turned my computer on there was a message that said BTT was updated and I had to force shut down my computer because it was frozen. I restarted the computer but every so often the cursor and text entry would freeze (it froze several times as I was typing this and I had to restart BTT to find the version number). When BTT is NOT running I have no issues. When I noticed the SetApp version was 5.640 and the downloaded version is 5.649 I thought there might be a fix since the SetApp version but it seems like there is still a problem since I installed the downloaded version. I will report back once I have tested your instructions.
there is also a known issue that causes cursor freezes on macOS Tahoe with various apps

These seem to be fixed in the upcoming macOS 26.1 release, but the workarounds posted in that reddit thread help a lot for now
I haven’t decided if things are fixed sufficiently yet. I followed your instructions. Resetting the permissions seemed to help a lot. The instructions on Reddit don’t seem to help the freezing issue for me but yet it seems to be working better. BTT still quits working quite often but not as much. I do have a shortcut to kill BTT and restart it so it’s not a big deal - just wish I didn’t have to. Also, every time I restart BTT it asks permission for something. I don’t pay much attention to it so just click allow so don’t remember right now what it is asking permission for.
