Trackpad Gesture Not Working After Boot: Requires Quit and Relaunch to Resolve

I have BTT installed on my Mac. It works just fine, but for a while now, I've noticed that my trackpad gesture, which I set up since I purchased BTT, doesn't work after I boot my Mac. I have to quit BTT completely (a "Restart BTT" from the menu won't work), to make it work again.

This is so weird, and of course, most of the time, while relaunching it, it crashes my StreamDeck software as well, so I have to relaunch this one too (that’s a recurring bug, btw). Every morning, I have to do that to get my workflow running, which is pretty annoying, obviously.

It used to work before, and since I installed the fresh OS, actually. So, it might be related to a specific BTT version, maybe. However, the issue persists regardless of the new versions I’ve installed over time, including the latest.

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: iMac 5K 2019 - 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 - 128 GB RAM
  • macOS version: Sonoma 14.8
  • BetterTouchTool version: 6.017

EDIT:

I’ve just tried to reset the permissions using the Terminal:

tccutil reset All com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool

(which kinda froze the OS afterwards (very unstable/unresponsive))

But after rebooting and giving the permissions again, it didn’t work. I still had to quit and restart BTT manually.

that sounds very weird - "Restart BTT" will do exactly the same as quitting and launching it again.

Are none of your gestures working or a specific one?

That’s usually the first one I use (for some reason  ), to close a window, but yeah good point, I’ll have to try my other ones first, see if it’s a global thing or just targeted to this specific one (which doesn’t make sense obviously).

Ok, I think it’s a timing issue. If I use the gesture within 30 sec to 2 minutes (approximately, I didn’t measure) after booting up, it won’t work. But I’ve noticed that if I don’t use it for a while after booting up, then it’ll work eventually (without quitting/relaunching)… does it make sense? To me, it doesn’t, but maybe you’ll have an idea.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I always make sure BTT is loaded in the menu bar while the OS is loading all other menu bar apps (and it’s quite quick anyway).

After boot when you notice it is not working: can you try to grab the logs from ~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool/Logs and send them to me? (andreas@folivora.ai)

I will! Thanks for your help! :folded_hands:t3:

I just sent you an email.
