The icon in the menu bar disappears and the configuration does not appear

Describe the bug
I’ve been using BTT since it first came out. Suddenly, the icon has disappeared from the menu bar and I can no longer access the config (e.g. when I click on the app icon again). The triggers all seem to be working as normal, though.

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: MacBook Pro M2 Max
  • macOS version: 26.5.1
  • BetterTouchTool version: 6.598 (2026062303)

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this, or how I could fix it?

I’ve set up hundreds of triggers over the years.

on macOS 26 it is easy to accidentally hide the menubar icon, can you check whether it is still enabled in System Settings => Menu Bar ?

You can open the BTT preferences by clicking the BTT app icon again while it is already running. (Or by running this terminal command:

 osascript -e 'tell application "BetterTouchTool" to trigger_action "{BTTPredefinedActionType: 105}"'

Sorry – I’ve found it. The icon was actually disabled in the settings, and I thought the configuration would open when I restarted BTT (as with PopClip, etc.).

For now, I’m just glad everything’s back to normal, and I’ve also taken the opportunity to uninstall Bratender, as I suspect it’s to blame because of the problems. It’s been playing up like mad for me too (sometimes it even moves the mouse and the order of the icons keeps changing).

Thanks for the quick reply!
