I've relied on this gesture for switching tabs for a long time, but it often fails to trigger on the first attempt, requiring a second action to work properly.
By the way, I hope Andreas can try an app called jitouch2. In this app, tapping one finger while keeping another fixed is very responsive and can be triggered multiple times without failure. Currently, BTT (BetterTouchTool) doesn’t perform well; for instance, when I keep my middle finger on the trackpad and repeatedly tap my index finger, I want to quickly trigger Control + Tab to switch tabs. BTT often fails on the first tap and sometimes on subsequent ones as well. In contrast, jitouch is both responsive and accurate. I wonder if the two apps have different underlying principles and where the delay actually comes from.
This means I have to keep both apps running, using jitouch for this gesture, which feels quite inelegant. BTT just can't match that level of sensitivity and precision.
You are talking about the TipTap gesture?
If so, maybe there is just some misunderstanding on how it works because I use it all day every day:
1.) Make sure no finger is touching the trackpad
2.) Touch with the first finger and keep touching
3.) Tap with the second finger
Most likely 1. is what is causing your issues.
You can also enable this option which will allow re-triggering without lifting your fingers again, but it can lead to conflicts with system gestures:
Thanks for your reply. I've already tried this setting and increased the sensitivity, but this gesture still occasionally fails. I've recorded a demo video. The first part shows the issues with BTT using this gesture: the first tap occasionally fails, and it occasionally fails when repeated
The latter part tests jitouch's performance. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to express
Let me see how I can send you the video
Unfortunately this is just how TipTaps work in BTT. In BTT TipTaps explicitly require you to remove all fingers from the trackpad to prevent conflicts with standard system clicks & scrolling. The allow movement option allows to re-trigger if the cursor has moved but it will still require you to remove all fingers before the first TIpTap
I tried uploading to YouTube but for some reason, it's flagging me for copyright issues. Please check out this video
Is there a way for BTT to use Jitouch's trigger logic? I really don't want to install another software
Unfortunately that is not possible, the tip taps are quite hard to implement given the system restrictions
Can you speculate how the jitouch app is implemented? More deep-level?
it just uses a different approach - when I tested it years ago that resulted in lots of false positives while scrolling
Okay, it seems I still can't uninstall jitouch for now. I've actually been doing this for over a year, and luckily, the two don't conflict
By the way, how do I enable the two-finger tap and slide gesture to trigger BTT mouse gestures? I forgot how to enable this feature on my other new Mac
that depends a bit on how you want it to behave, have a look here Drawing / Scribble Triggers · GitBook
