Support for Logitech M720 Mice

@Andreas_Hegenberg, I’m splitting out the M720 discussion from the MX Master Discussion.

Problem Statement:

The “hidden” thumb button, shown below, does not get recognized while trying to configure as of BTT v6.011. This fails to happen whether or not the mouse is connected directly over bluetooth or through the dongle Logitech provides.

Log:

Thanks,

Todd

There have been many logitech related alpha updates since 6.011, could you try again with 6.050 and copy the log from that version?

Using v6.062, still no recognition of the thumb button.

Could you check whether v6.071 fixes the thumb button on the m720? (and confirm the other buttons are still working?)

6.071 will be available in 10min.

@Andreas_Hegenberg, the button is getting picked up with v6.072. Attaching the log just in case you need it for any reason.

Thanks for getting this supported!

Another question/feature request for the M720, @Andreas_Hegenberg.

Buttons 10 & 11 are a triggered by moving the scroll wheel to the left and right, respectively. Logitech has these default to horizontal scrolling if I remember correctly.

I’ve enabled that with this setup, but it seems kludgy, because I still have to roll the scroll wheel up/down while also holding the whole thing to the left.

I cannot find a scroll action that will just scroll left when the wheel is pressed left. I could trigger scroll swap with a quick click and disable it with a long click when I’m done scrolling horizontally, but I’m guessing I’ll forget that.

Any suggestions on a better way to enable? Would it be possible to have an action that just replicates the Logitech functionality where holding the wheel left/right simply scrolls left/right?

You could assign the predefined actions "Start Smooth Scrolling" and "Stop Smooth Scrolling" like this:

Change the speed to a negative value to change the direction.

Due to a bug this requires >= v6.093!

Brillant!

@Andreas_Hegenberg,would there be some reason that this doesn’t work well in Google Chrome?

Seems to work fine in Preview, Excel, and Finder. Google Chrome seems to need me to scroll the wheel a little bit.

Likely a Chrome problem, which isn’t in your lane, but I thought I’d ask in the event you know of scroll issues with BTT in chrome.

interesting, I'll check! Seems like it doesn't like the trackpad emulation:

For now you can either disable that option in general or duplicate the trigger specific for Chrome:

Is there a way in BTT to spy what is being toggled on the mouse?

Another thing I’m seeing is that after I use Button 10 or 11 for horizontal scrolling in Preview, the scroll wheel is not usable unless I move the mouse to either the thumbnails or out of the window. Just curious if the wheel is being picked up.

does that also happen if you disable the trackpad emulation? Unfortunately spying on this is not really possible unless the app itself implements this

Disabling “Simulate Trackpad Scrolling” fixes Preview & Chrome.

Thanks for testing, then I'm probably still missing something (trackpad scroll emulation is lot of private undocumented macOS stuff)

This seems to work well now. Curious about the reason for even wanting trackpad emulation in this case.

For example the macOS calendar app can not scroll in weekview with standard horizontal scrolling and only allows that via trackpad or magic mouse (Apple probably wants to push its own devices)

Or mail can not archive mails when scrolling them horizontally with a standard mouse, safari can not go back a page etc.

Ah I found the issue for Chrome & Preview. Will be fixed in the next version (tomorrow because currently Apple's notary service is broken)

ok they fixed it fast

Should now work in 6.095 (and I like the trackpad mode quite a bit, e.g. going back in browser by holding the horizontal scroll is pretty cool - although it looks much nicer in safari than in chrome)

Yep, confirmed that both apps work correctly now with “Simulate Trackpad Scrolling” enabled.
