Standalone Desktop Buttons

Hallo @Andreas_Hegenberg ,

we have very powerfull floating menus which are highly flexible (may be too complex for quick and simpler tasks, therefor this suggestion...)
.
I believe you might be able to introduce a "simpler" standalone single BTT Desktop Button which would work without having it inside the menu.

It could be basically similar (look and feel) as the one used by the shortcut app.
Yes, we could do all that with a floating menu, or the shortcut Mac app (calling a BTT trigger...),

but having that such "Desktop Button" defined within the BTT configuration would be much nicer to trigger BTT actions.
Sometimes one or two "Desktop Buttons" (put in different spaces) would just be enough for the job.

StreamDeck will have similar with their virtual desktop developments,
check it: Desktop Buttons

Thx,
Christian

I'm not sure I understand the difference from having a floating menu with a button.
Or do you mean a pre-configured floating menu?

I have almost finished some work that will allow you to use chatgpt (or any other AI) to generate simple menus with a simple prompt. (E.g. I just used this prompt: "create a floating menu that sits at the top left of the focused screen and has three buttons, the buttons should be green, pink and yellow" and it worked great :-))

Yes, that is probably it! While not all menu options would be needed/available

The key is easy quick usage, for a single button!

(for other use cases the floating menu can be used)
It could be all done already, by having no menu background/border etc and only the buttons options…

Imagine, it should look and behave like a normal Mac App icon (standard fixed size…) just a click to trigger BTT actions.

Makes sense, I will just add some template menus. When adding a new floating menu BTT will ask what kind of floating menu you want to create. E.g.

  • empty menu (what we have currently)
  • desktop button
  • preconfigured menu with 6 buttons
  • circular/radial menu
  • ask AI for specific menu configuration
  • ...

Great:..

Can‘t wait for this (it is working already with some copy/paste)
Change all button background color to light green

You know you can already select all your buttons and change the color?

ha, Yes, there about 200 - that is work for GPT

I meant without AI, just making sure you are aware of the multi-selection editing

Oh yes, of cause… I misread your post,

Hallo @Andreas_Hegenberg

I got a feature request related to the above "Desktop Button thingy"... but it might also be useful for other situations...

At the moment (menu) dragging is available only via the menu background/title bar (here in blue for demo, will be transparent in the final version)

Would it be possible to enable (menu) dragging also when the mouse cursor is within the button area ?

Thx,
Christian

mh yes that sounds good, I have enabled it in 5.408. I'm not sure whether it could cause any issues, but couldn't think of any right now.

works !

Hallo @Andreas_Hegenberg,

I am using the build-in "spaces" (like virtual desktops 1-4).

Is there a way to open a menu at the current "space" and "pin" it there, (currently when switching spaces the menu stays visible as the original position, in all spaces).
I tried different options (also the right-click context), but can't see one that fits/works...

Thx,
Christian
