I managed to achieve this in a very basic way using key sequences.
What's not working is holding down the space bar and pressing an alphabet repeatedly to move the cursor.
Does anyone know how to configure that? TIA!!
using the spacebar as a modifier is an old wish of many 
It seems much easier than it actually is if it should work properly.
As far as I know, key repetition only works with real modifiers at the moment. But Andreas is working on it.
May I ask, have you set up Space so that it is typed when the key is released?

Yes I've set up Space to do that.
