Single click\tap registered after 3 finger click gesture

I have set the 3 finger click (not tap) on both the Macbook trackpad and the Magic Trackpad 2 to cmd+w to close tabs in all my browsers (firefox, safari, brave).

Most of the time, after the tab closes, the device registers a single click or tap. If the mouse pointer is on a link on the web page in the tab that is left after closing the previous tab with the gesture, that link is "clicked" and opened.

This seems to happen when I release the trackpad from the 3 finger click or lift my fingers from the trackpad after the 3 finger click.
This has been going on for a while and has persisted through multiple updates of bettertouchtool.

Affected input device: MacBook Trackpad, Magic Trackpad

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: 13" Macbook Pro 2014
  • macOS version: 10.14.6
  • BetterTouchTool version: 3.552 (1692)

This bug and the one linked here may stem from the same issue. Maybe it's possible to add a set time or condition (fingers lifted from trackpad) or combination of the 2, where additional inputs are ignored after the gesture is registered.

do you have three finger dragging enabled on your system?

Yes, I do. I also have the 3 finger drag optimization enabled in btt settings.
