Shortcuts show enabled but not working

Just installed v5.800 on 2019 Mac Pro 7,1 running OS 15.4.1, input device is Das Keyboard MacTigr. Not complicated keyboard shortcuts, just mapping common keyboard commands like CMD-C & CMD-V to function keys. BTT displays check in each “Shortcut is Enabled” box. However, pressing a mapped function key precipitates a system alert sound and does nothing else. As long as BTT is running pressing the actual keyboard combination produces the same alert sound without executing a command. As soon as I exit BTT normal functionality is restored. I’ve restarted both BTT and the CPU multiple times with no effect. Searched for but didn’t find comparable board topics, hence this post. I’m not running any secondary macOS environments like Mission Control, Launchpad, or Control Center; and there are no conflicting keyboard shortcuts in their or keyboard System Settings. I taught programming once upon a time and previously achieved the functionality I’m after with Karabiner, but wanted something more user-friendly. BTT rose to the top of that search. I’m hoping it’s just my unfamiliarity with the software.

best post a screenshot of your configuration, then I can maybe tell what's wrong.

A system alert sound usually means the system receives a keyboard command that the currently active app doesn't handle

I attempted to map 4 function keys as you will see from the screenshot. All of those corresponding commands are disabled while BTT is active, but other keyboard combinations still work. I had to use Shift-Cmd-3 to take a whole-screen shot as I had mapped the selective Shift-Cmd-4 within BTT, so it was disabled. I hope the cropped picture is clear enough to be useful.

with this setup pressing cmd+c would (instead of copying whatever is selected) send the F1 key to macOS. In most / many applications that key wouldn't do anything.

What are you using the F1 key in this example for?

I was able to map Cmd-C (Copy) functionality to the F1 key using Karabiner - a single press of F1 sent whatever was selected on the screen to my clipboard. That was my intention with BTT as well.

Ah then you have it mapped the wrong direction, it should be like this:

Your setup would trigger F1 when pressing cmd+c. What you want is to trigger cmd+c when pressing F1

So I just completely reversed the correct configuration. I wish I could say that was the first time…

I’ll definitely give that a shot.

BTT does not seem to recognize an F1-press as an action.

in general that should work fine, do you maybe still have the f keys remapped in Karabiner?

(you need it as a trigger, not as an action though)

No. I’m rebuilding my boot drive from scratch due to a Tahoe “upgrade” that bricked my Mac Pro a few days back. Karabiner has not been installed; I was hoping to replace it with BTT.

that's weird, this should definitely work. Does nothing happen at all when you try to record F1? If your keyboard is set to use the F keys as media keys in system preferences you might need to press fn + F1

However BTT in general can also recognize the media keys directly, they just wouldn't show up as F key then

Enabling the standard function toggle system setting for F-keys seems to have rendered them recognizable by BTT, and therefore mappable by it. Looks like it’s working. Definitely easier than Karabiner. Thanks for your assistance.
