"Send shortcut to an App" not working if the app is minimized

I am using a keyboard shortcut to send "space" to Spotify but it does not work if I have the app minimized in the dock.

It works fine if it is open and behind some windows.

I think there is nothing you can do apart from un-minimizing first ;-(
