presets: not working or do I not get it?

Are you trying to activate / deactivate a group (or set) of hotkeys by pressing hotkeys designated to activate said group??

It's possible I'm not understanding how this is supposed to work.

I would like something akin to vim, where I can press a hotkey to go into another mode (similar to normal mode in vim) which would allow me to nav pages/word docs. I'm trying to set up a preset group to do this with no joy.

I have set up a hotkey to trigger the mode nav, but after I do it, the nav keys I have set up do not work. Confused. Help?
