Preset Actions Disappearing — Possible Sync Overwrite?

Hi there,

10 or so new actions that I spent a few hours on last week just vanished. This has now happened twice. I’m working in a custom preset (set as Master), everything saves and works fine, but later the actions are just gone—as if the preset reverted to an older version.

Is this possibly related to sync overwriting presets? Any idea what could cause this or how to prevent it? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!
Craig

sync is super experimental, both old and new - so yes that is definitely possible.
Which sync are you using?

Actually, I thought I had it on but it’s not on.

So somehow my last round of actions just disappeared. Weird.

Accidentally having multiple versions of BTT can also cause such symptoms - because one version is always working with a specific database. If you setup the 10 actions with e.g. 6.443 and then for some reason start 6.441 later, they would be gone. Is that possible? Maybe check the time stamps of the database files in ~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool

The database files are named like this (always 3 files belong to one db) and the one with the highest version number should also be the last modified one:
btt_data_store.version_6_443_build_2026042403-wal
btt_data_store.version_6_443_build_2026042403
btt_data_store.version_6_443_build_2026042403-shm

Yes, I found that I had 2 BTT apps for some reason. One in my user folder, one in the universal folder. I will remove one. However, I did not find any time stamps from last week in the APplication Support/Better Touch Tool folder. The last time stamps were. from 4/22. Oh well, at least I know what’s causing the issue.

did you look at ~/Library ? (not /Library)
On macOS ~ is short for „user home directory“

Yes, I looked in both. ~/Library, and /Library. The BTT Application Support Folder only exists in ~/Library. I’m not worried about the lost actions. I’m just glad you pointed me to the root issue of 2 BTT apps on my system. Thanks!
