"not open anymore"

I am suddenly getting repeated intrusive error messages telling me “The application ‘BetterTouchTool is not open anymore”. And the thing is, not only am I getting these messages repeatedly, but the app actually seems to be open and functioning normally — at least the shortcuts I have made in it continue to work.

Which version of BTT are you on? I had the same problem yesterday, after I updated to the latest alpha version (I think it was 5.738) it was gone.

I have just updated to 5.743, let's see if it keeps running smoothly.

I’m on 5.739 — but I’ll try updating to the alpha version. Thanks for the suggestion.

you might need to restart your system, this error can happen if the system is running out of resources for whatever reason

does this occur at random or e.g. after waking your Mac from sleep?

Possibly try to disable this option if you have it enabled:

Thanks for the suggestions. Trying the alpha version, as first suggested, seemed to help. I did not have the problem yesterday at all. If it recurs, I will try unchecking that item as you suggest.

There was no connection between the problem and waking the Mac from sleep, however. It was occurring frequenty and randomly while working.

Hi Andreas- had emailed response but saw it didn’t go thru and thread moved here… That box is NOT checked already. Still happens, though only occasionally (couple times/ day). Don’t know if it is relevant, but I do go back and forth with my MB Pro between using it alone, and with a CalDigit TS4 thunderbolt dock…. thanks.

So it just happened again. I was working on laptop for about 30 minutes, just on an insurance website, nothing specific going on…. As previously, even thugh it says it’s not open anymore, it is still working.

if it happens again, can you go to ~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool/Logs and send the contents of that folder to me go there via Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder, make sure to include the ~, send the logs to andreas@folivora.ai)

Do you maybe have a second instance of BTT somewhere on your machine? (maybe in the downloads folder)

Will do!… And in searching with HoudahSpot, there is another “instance” of the app only on my backup drive (using carbon copy cloner, so that may account for the double message?)

I might have found something that could be related - if that was it, it should be resolved in 5.745

I see you’ve put out 3 updates since last post, but fyi, it looks like the issue is fixed- will let you know if I get another popup- thanks!
