Describe the bug
The new UI prefs doesn't have a "Check for Updates" button. The old UI does.
Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):

Type of Mac: MacBook Pro 2019
macOS version: 10.14.6
BetterTouchTool version: 3.200
that can be accessed from the menubar now (or via the BTT menubar icon menu)

Ah. I use BTT without either turned on, which explains why I never found it.

also im using menubar button off and auto update off. can i trigger update check with applescript
You can just use the BTT menubar if you have the preferences open:

thanks for quick reply, actually im using script menu much, and using applescripts for toggle btt presets, its much faster compared to opening btt. thats a neat feature. it would be great if i can check updates with same way. thanks for your efforts
