Moving windows with modifier keys on hover doesn't seem to work anymore

I’ve recently upgraded to macOS Tahoe and now the Move windows function with modifier keys doesn’t work anymore, neither does the Resize windows one. Both under Settings > Window Snapping & Moving > Moving & Resizing Modifier Keys

This is how it’s set up.

Tried on the 5.800 version and also in the 6.0 Beta one

most likely the tahoe upgrade broke your macOS permission database. I'd try to quit BTT, then run this terminal command :

sudo tccutil reset All com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool

on next launch of BTT you will then need to grant the permissions again

Hi Andreas, thanks for your message.

I did what you suggested and it’s still not working, after quitting it, running the command, reeopening BTT and granting all permissions again. How can I get log or full settings I can send you to help debug it better?

Best,

Hey Andreas, I am on Monterey 12.7.6 although planning to upgrade soon. However, I haven’t done any kind of upgrade recently.

Sometime in the last few days, I’ve ended up with the same issue. Doesn’t matter which modifier keys I select, I can no longer move windows. Is there anything else that could be interfering?

(Oh and to clarify, I reset the permissions as you suggested above, and was prompted to grant them again)

same issue here as well.. somehow can’t seem to move windows anymore. or resize for what it’s worth

@wiffle you are probably on the latest alpha, correct? There was an issue yesterday after some refactorings - this should be resolved in 6.055 (uploading now).

Thanks - working now. Appreciate it!

Awesome, fixed for me too, thanks!

Same problem now for on my machine. Tried both latest and alpha. Currently 6.341
Resetting permissions did not help.

One thing that I noticed is that I it does bring the window I want to move to the front. But it can’t move it. Snapping is also not working anymore.

This happened after update to Tahoe 26.4 (25E246). So 99% related to that

If it happened after a macOS update it is most likely a permission issue. Try to quit BTT, then go to System Settings => Privacy & Security => Accessibility, then remove BTT (via the delete button, disabling is not enough) and add it back manually again.

Thanks Andreas

I was obviously in a really weird state. Also used Claude for debugging… I literally did this 5 times in a row including tccutil reset and then my system stoppend taking any inputs anymore. But then after a hard hardware shutdown it now works again.

Thanks again. Much appreciated
