Hi folks,
I've mostly been able to remap my Mac keyboard to behave more like Windows. But there is one thing that I'm hoping to improve and that I can't seem to figure out.
On Windows, using Ctrl+Left Arrow or Ctrl+Right Arrow moves left and right a word respectively. On Windows, when holding Ctrl, you can move left or right a word indefinitely. The equivalent on Mac would be holding Option+Left Arrow or Option+Right Arrow.
On BTT, I have successfully mapped Ctrl to be used instead of Option. But what I haven't been able to figure out is how to keep moving left a word or right a word indefinitely while also holding down Ctrl. When using Option, it works as expected, where holding it down means I can move right or left a word forever.
I know there is a repeat action setting in BTT, but after setting it to repeat to once or even twice, the action does occur as expected.
Since my workflow involves a lot of writing, a solution for this would be appreciated.
Thanks!
the best way to remap the text editing shortcuts in macOS is to make us of a pretty unknown and really old technique - setting up a file called DefaultKeyBinding.Dict in this folder: ~/Library/KeyBindings/ (go first to ~/Library/ via Finder => Go => Go to Folder, make sure to include the ~, then create the KeyBindings folder in there, put the file in there and restart your Mac)
There are various example out there that make everthing match windows as closely as possible, e.g. Mac OSX keybindings to more closely match Windows · GitHub should do what you need.
In case you don't want to do this, and want to try it with BTT instead, you need to enable the key repeat on the triggering shortcut:
Very much appreciated, Andreas! Your suggestion for BTT worked as expected!
And thank you again for the Link to the GitHub page. Since my work computer is a PC, moving back and forth between a PC and my Mac has been difficult for me, especially when it comes to text editing. I'll look into that page to see what else I can learn.
Thank you again and for the great product.
