"Move window to next monitor" resizes the window

Describe the bug

  • open any app, for instance Textedit
  • activate keyboard shortcut linked with "Move window to next monitor"
  • window will move, but also resize—sometimes to something very small
  • if the keyboard shortcut is activated again this doesn’t happen, it happens only the first time moving a new window

I’m not sure when this began, but I think this bug didn’t happen before (I’ve had this shortcut assigned for a while)

Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):
keyboard, possibly others

I can’t record two monitors at the same time but I guess the steps to reproduce are easy enough so that’s not really needed

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: macbook pro 14inch
  • macOS version: 15.3.1 (24D70)
  • BetterTouchTool version: 5.242 (I’ve tried updating to latest alpha version)

I read that "move window to next monitor" is a bit legacy. Use "custom move/resize window" instead.

Conf I use to move one screen to the right:

Thanks @Benjamin_Bini, that seems to work. The only downside I noticed is that the action seems to depend on the geometry of the screens. Moving "right" doesn’t work on my system because my two monitors are position one above the other, so I had to use moving "down".

I guess when switching to my work monitors, which are positioned differently, that won’t work anymore.

Hey looks like I replied too fast, the behavior is the same with "custom move", the window gets resized without any reason.

@Andreas_Hegenberg any idea what’s causing this?

maybe some other action you have configured somewhere that resizes the window?

Especially the "move window to next monitor" action would never resize anything - that is actually a limitation of the action, which is why it only works on same resolution displays.

I’m using my macbook + an external 27in monitor but I don’t think this is the cause: let’s say I open Textedit and move its window on the next monitor, it resizes the window. But if I move it again and again, it doesn’t resize it anymore. It only resizes the window the first time it’s moved. That means it can move the window correctly!

no, nothing else should interfere

See example in this video

Sorry for the bad quality, I can’t do a screen capture with two monitors at the same time.
