Move Right a Space keyboard shortcut stopped working

For years I've happily used the F5 key to move left a space with help from BetterTouchTool, and the F6 key has allowed me to move right a space. In the past few weeks the F6 shortcut stopped working. I enabled alpha builds and restarted and continued to encounter the issue. The F5 shortcut continues to function as expected. I tried enabling and disabling the shortcut, I deleted the F6 shortcut and mapped the key again to the option to move right a space, and I tried creating a new preset in BTT and making the new one the master. So far I've had no luck in finding a workaround. Any guesses on the culprit? Thanks so much for software I have used daily for several years, for work and recreation.

Affected input device:

Keyboard

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: MacBook Air 13-inch M4 2025
  • macOS version: 15.6.1 (24G90)
  • BetterTouchTool version: (please post the exact version - not just "the latest one")

go to System Settings => Keyboard => Keyboard Shortcuts => Mission Control and check whether either of these shortcuts has a warning triangle. If so, please assign a different shortcut.

BTT makes use of these internally.

Thanks for the quick response, Andreas! Both of the keyboard shortcuts show warning triangles, but they list the same shortcut, which I do not recall entering (control+option+shift+command+]). At first I tried to assign a different shortcut for either of them, but neither stuck. When I unchecked the boxes and pushed each of my custom keyboard shortcuts (F5 and F6), I saw the check mark for each one briefly get checked and then get unchecked. Then I disabled the shortcuts in BTT. From there, I was able to update the shortcuts in System Settings to F5 and F6. I checked these options and clicked done, and then I reopened BTT to enable my custom shortcuts. F5 works again, and F6 still does not work. Then I go back to System Settings, and I see the assigned shortcut for moving right a space has been reset to control+option+shift+command+]. I feel I must be making a stupid mistake....

By the way, I previously failed to specify the BTT version number. It is 3.086.

unfortunately that is a very old version, it is very possible there have been related changes in macOS since that was released many years ago. (and BTT has adapted to them)

I would recommend upgrading to a current version.

Ah, right. I'm now on 6.610 with my lifetime license. I'm afraid the Move Right a Space shortcut is not working through the new version.

can you think of any recently installed app that might be interfering? I can't really think of anything that could conflict as this is one of BTT's most used functions, but there is always something new

I found a workaround! Deleted the existing Move Right a Space shortcut in BTT. Went to create a new one with the same function and F6 keymapping and noticed an option I hadn't seen before: "Move Right a Space (Without Animation)." I chose that function. It's working. I went and updated the F5 function to skip animation as well, and that one is also working now. For what it's worth, in System Settings -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts... -> Mission Control, the Mission Control options are all turned off. Vielen Dank nochmal for building and maintaining wonderful software, Andreas!
