Logitech MX Mechanical Mini: modifier keys & keyboard brightness

First, thanks so much for allowing us to do without the awful Logi Options+ software when customising their keyboards & mice. Using a Logi MX Mechanical Mini, I encounter two issues (let me know if I should create two separate topics):

  1. BTT recognises the keyboard’s special keys, e.g. the “brightness down/up” (F4/F5) keys, and when actions are assigned to these, they trigger properly. However, the actions “Logitech: De/Increase Keyboard Brightness” do not work. That is, the brightness just does not change.

I would be particularly interested in this action (and, more specifically, turning the brightness all the way off or on, instead of just incremental changes) since I am share the frequent issue with this keyboard that the background light does not turn off automatically, so I would like to create a shortcut which completely turns off and on the backlight.

  1. When making changes to the Logi keyboard in BTT, the modifier keys (e.g. cmd and shift) stop being recognised. Restarting the keyboard solves the problem, but surprisingly only for a short time. Even when NOT making new changes, the modifiers stop being recognised after a few seconds and I have to restart again. Only solution for me at the moment is to turn off BTT’s Logi support.

Apologies if both issues are just a usage mistake on my side.

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: MacBook Pro M4
  • macOS version: 26.1
  • BetterTouchTool version: 6.011

Could you post the logs for this keyboard? You can copy them in the BTT settings:

Sure, here they are! (Attached, as they exceed the allowed character count.) Thanks for getting back so soon!

Backlight works for me with version: 6.029

On and off only. Incremental steps don’t work, which is fine for me.

Unfortunately it turns out that setting the brightness via software is not supported by the firmware of these keyboards (only v3 keyboards allow this), so I made it to at least turn on/off.

I will also add an option to exclude the brightness keys from being remapped so you can continue to use the native firmware brightness control when required

With version 6.081 I now also have the behavior of brightness decrease → fully off, increase → fully on. For me, this behavior actually even is preferred over the incremental de-/increase since I wanted to create a toggle that turns the backlight off/on.

One minor caveat: the label action label has a typo, it reads "Brightenss" instead of "Brightness" (see the screenshot).

Thanks a lot for the help!
