KeyboardCleanTool 6: Spacebar Intercepted Inappropriately

Describe the bug
KeyboardCleanTool continues to intercept all spacebar presses even after being deactivated if it was previously activated with spacebar.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open KeyboardCleanTool. If ‘Start cleaning mode immediately’ is set, click to stop cleaning mode.
  2. Start cleaning mode by pressing spacebar. Starting cleaning mode by clicking does not trigger the bug.
  3. Click to stop cleaning mode.
  4. Focus another app.
  5. Press spacebar. KeyboardCleanTool will intercept the spacebar press, raise itself, and activate cleaning mode.

This is troublesome because it makes spacebar unusable without closing KeyboardCleanTool which shouldn’t be necessary and causes the KeyboardCleanTool window position to reset itself from my preferred position.

Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):

MacBook keyboard.

  • Type of Mac: Apple Silicon
  • macOS version: Tahoe 26.0.1
  • BetterTouchTool version: KeyboardCleanTool 6 installed via Homebrew

very interesting. This is 100% a macOS bug, maybe introduced with Tahoe. I have added a workaround in v7: https://folivora.ai/releases/KeyboardCleanTool.zip
