But sometimes, it takes the top most item from the clipboard manager. It works as expected, but after a couple of tries.

ah weird, it should work fine on that macOS version. How often does this happen to you?
(The problem is BTT needs to copy the text to paste to the clipboard in order to paste it, if that fails for whatever reason it will paste the current clipboard contents instead)
On an average, the problem occurs once every 3 to 4 uses. I mostly face the issue in Google Doc only and Microsoft OneNote.
