Mh they have been working fine here for years (I think even on macOS 15)
However in your recent video about the virtual side screens, you had this translucent overlay appear that didn't belong to the virtual side screen feature. I think such translucent windows could prevent this from working correctly. Maybe that is the issue?
I don't know where that translucent window could come from (if it is from BTT the only thing I can think of is a floating menu without content or a broken floating webview). It could however also come from some other app.
//edit: 6.979 skips translucent windows, maybe that will help
I found that the translucent window that was appearing in the side screen was the window of HazeOver.
Also this window from HazeOver was interacing with the "Frontmost Windows Side By Side" action, causing the issue I posted.
Interestingly, this HazeOver window is NOT interacing with the "Frontmost Windows in Quarters" action, causing no issues.
Closing HazeOver app fixes all the issues of the side screen (it fixes the double click issue and the phantom translucent window) and also the issue of the "Frontmost Windows Side By Side".
Running BTT 6,979:
It has fixed the issue of the "Frontmost Windows Side By Side" with HazeOver. Great!
Could you apply this solution also for the side screen?
Remarks:
The "Frontmost Windows Side By Side" action only resizes and moves the first two windows of the frontmost app. I mean that the rest of opened windows (3rd,4th,etc) are not moved and not resized. Is this by design?
This is the opposite behaviour to "Frontmost Windows in Quarters" action, wich moves and resizes the first four windows, but also the 5th, the 6th, etc.
I guess this problem with HazeOver is occuring after I updated it to the last version some days ago. I remember the release notes said that it was updated for macOS 27. Since HazeOver is a fairly widely used app, it might be a good idea to implement a global solution in BTT to avoid conflicts with this HazeOver window.
ah, that sounds like a bug in HazeOver then. BTT can only apply some workarounds, but as this will affect tons of other things as well, it would be much better if HazeOver applied a fix to exclude that window from Accessibility
I am not sure whether I understand, the side by side one takes the first two windows, the quarters one takes the first four windows - regardless of app (at least that’s how it should be)
There are 5 small Finder windows in the center of the screen
I trigger the "Frontmost Windows Side By Side" action
The first two windows are moved and resized
The other three windows remains small in the center of the screen
Scenario 2:
There are 5 small Finder windows in the center of the screen
I trigger the "Frontmost Windows in Quarters" action
The five windows are moved and resized in quarters
IMO, it is a different behaviour:
"Frontmost Windows in Quarters" affects all opened windows (not only the first four)
"Frontmost Windows Side By Side" affects only the first two windows (the rest are excluded)
I would prefer that the "Frontmost Windows Side By Side" affects all opened windows, but maybe it makes more sense as it is now.
You're right, I got mixed up. In the tests I ran with 5 Finder windows, the fifth window was already positioned in one of the quadrants. That’s what threw me off. Sorry for the trouble!
