I'd like to display just the battery icon by default, but when pressed I'd like it to show me the percentage and time remaining. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Bump! I would love this too. I've set an action to open energy saver preferences which isn't quite the same but it's a good placeholder!
Also the ability to choose your own battery icon would be cool too.....
