How to disable BTT hyperkey priority?

Hello!

I'm using BTT for trackpad gestures and Raycast for Hyperkey functionality, but every time when my Mac wakes up from sleep, it stops working and shows following error:

Couldn't enable Hyper Key: Quit application
'BetterTouchTool' first.

I don't have hyper key configured in BTT, since, according to my tests, BTT Hyperkey works much more unreliably in comparison to RayCast. (Sometimes it doesn't work and I have to use shortcut 2 or even 3 times to trigger it and Process Priority Tool doesn't help with it - same problem with trackpad gestures).

So I'd prefer to keep my shortcut bindings & hyperkey setup in Raycast. But is there any way I can disable hyperkey lock from BTT?

bettertouchtool doesn’t block this, raycast could still enable the hyperkey - not sure why they don’t. It’s not a technical limitation

You can however configure your hyperkey in BTT instead (it has been improved a lot in recent versions and doesn't have issues anymore).

Hi! Thank you for you suggestion and support! I have followed your advice and tried to configure my hyperkey in BTT, but it doesn't work as much reliable and the same way as in raycast.
The main problem is I can't toggle caps lock any more, so caps lock lost it's basic functionality.
Here is my configurations settings:

you can enable this behavior like that

  • select "Actions Executed on (Unused Hyperkey Release)"
  • add a "Toggle Caps Lock On / Off" action

yes, that is, in fact, my current setup (i have posted the screenshot of that earlier). But it doesn't work :frowning: :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Mhm maybe something is interfering? This is pretty well tested and used on many machines, it should work :slight_smile:

Can you maybe give some details about your BTT and macOS version? (BTT should be a current version for this to work reliably)

You may be right, because today my caps lock toggles just fine, yet it didn't just yesterday.
My BTT version 5.294 (2025033105)
MacOS Sonoma 14.2.1

THis first action (Actions Executed on (Unused Hyperkey Release)) - if it is an action, I cannot find it in:

Action Configuration

Select a predefined action or keyboard shortcut

Would be nice if BBT could do this, as Tahoe 26.2 gives me problems with Karabiner (and Raycast complains about BTT, too!)

Really tricky here,

in my BBT version 5.8000 there is no thing called ”Act as Hyper Key”, at least I can’t find it, sorry.

You first need to record the caps lock key as that action is only assignable to that

Still not quite there, - -

  1. That I could not set the caps_lock was because I had the macos setting Caps-Lock: Do nothing (my misunderstanding).

  2. Howevr, when I want to ”Select a predefined action or keyboard shortcut” there I’m lost, cannot find anything, see scrdump.

have a look at the docs again and follow the exact steps, that should solve your issue. You first need to click where it says "Please record a keyboard shortcut" and record your caps lock key there (not as an action), then you can assign the hyperkey action to it
