Maybe this will work: Move the gestures in question to a separate preset that you can disable when you're typing on the sofa.
there are some advanced settings that allow for this but in the end it can not be prevented completely as BTT can not know whether you are about to type:

I asked several AI tools for a script to toggle that option that could be triggered with BTT. Unfortunately, none of the scripts work.

on older systems the changes in system setting sometimes did not become visible (but still active) until restarting the system preferences app, is that maybe the issue?
Ah, okay, that's right. When I close the System Prefs and reopen it, the option is selected. But the trackpad remains active.

Here’s another idea, maybe this is easier: The same thing happens when a Bluetooth mouse is connected. I still have an old one in my office. If this option is always turned on, but this action
turns Bluetooth on or off and the mouse connects on its own, you should achieve the same effect. I can’t test that right now. Instead of toggling the option, you’d toggle Bluetooth.

I don’t think so, if the option does not work with cable nouse I doubt it will work with bluetooth mice.
However it works fine here - this is about the internal trackpad, correct?
In case anyone's interested, here's how it works: Leave the macOS option enabled and just toggle the Bluetooth function.
If you need Bluetooth, you can also use the predefined actions to just turn the mouse on or off.
Of course, this is just a workaround in case the new predefined action doesn't work, as it didn't for me.
