BTT’s Clipboard Manager is already very powerful, but as a trackpad user, I find the current interaction a bit cumbersome.
Right now, I need to click an item in the clipboard list before I can preview its contents. It would be much more convenient if the preview could appear automatically when I hover over a list item, without requiring a click.
This would make browsing clipboard history much faster and more fluid, especially for trackpad users.
For reference, Alfred uses a similar interaction, and it feels very natural:
I’d love to see something like this supported in BTT.
This is the only real friction point I’ve run into with BTT’s Clipboard Manager, so I’d really appreciate any feedback on whether this could be considered.
Thanks for the reply, and I really appreciate the workaround you suggested. I tried it, but it still doesn’t quite fit my use case.
Each up/down swipe only triggers one Up/Down arrow action. What I need is repeated continuous navigation from repeated swipes. In practice, this ends up being less efficient than just using the arrow keys directly.
I mainly use the trackpad and am not used to switching to the keyboard. If I have to move my hand from the trackpad to the keyboard and then back again, it feels inefficient as well.
Could you please point me to where this feature is? I might be overlooking it, but I’ve been searching for quite a while and still haven’t been able to find it.
Thank you again for adding this so quickly. The turnaround was incredibly fast, and I really appreciate you supporting this feature. I think it will make the Clipboard Manager much more convenient for a lot of users.
I tested it right away, but unfortunately it does not seem to work on my side.
My setup:
BTT version: 6.298 (2026032312)
macOS: 26.3.1 (a) (25D771280a)
What I am seeing:
I enabled Show preview on hover (experimental)
When I move the pointer over items in the clipboard list, I can see the item's timestamp and action menu
However, the preview pane on the right does not change as the cursor moves between items → Expected behavior: the preview pane on the right should update when hovering over different clipboard items.
I tried different setting combinations, restarted BTT, and even restarted my Mac, but the behavior is still the same.
Could you please let me know if I might be missing something, or if there is anything else I should try? I’ve attached a screen recording below. I’d really love to get this feature working.
Thanks, I found this page (Key Repeat | BetterTouchTool Documentation), but I could not find the corresponding option in my BTT. It seems to be a Stream Deck-specific feature.
In any case, it does not matter now, because the developer has already implemented this feature directly , and it should be very useful. Thank you again for your kind help.
That said, the hover response feels a little slow. There seems to be about a 0.5-second delay before the preview updates, so it does not feel as smooth as Alfred, where the preview updates in real time as you move over items.
You can also take a look at my screen recording for reference.
I’m not sure whether there is any room for further optimization, but even in its current state, it is already very useful. I’ve actually switched over from Alfred’s clipboard history to this now.
It works now, and it feels much smoother than it did before. It’s already very nice to use.
I’ve attached a screen recording from Alfred for reference. Its preview really does update in real time with no noticeable delay, including for images. I’m not sure how they achieve that.
This may be asking for a bit much, but if it could eventually be as fast as Alfred, that would be perfect. Of course, it’s already very usable in its current state.
Alfred has another small detail that I find very useful: when the Clipboard Manager opens, the search field automatically gets focus, so I can start typing right away without having to move the pointer and click the search box first.
This is especially convenient for trackpad users like me. I do not need to think about where the cursor is. I can just bring up the clipboard manager with the trackpad and immediately start searching.
Just sharing this as a reference, and I hope you do not mind me mentioning it. Thanks again!
