Hotkey just opens BetterTouchTool main window sometimes. At random. Usually it does what I programmed it to do (launch an Apple Shortcut). Other times, it just opens BTT. I have no idea how to begin debugging this.

Describe the bug
Sometimes the hotkey just opens the BetterTouch tool main window.

I don't know why it's doing this. If it's trying to show me an error or something and just failing to show me the error. And I don't know where I'm supposed to look to debug this. I've tried exporting debug logs, but nothing stands out in them.

The hotkey is currently working but at complete random. And I'm talking this has been driving me bonkers for months trying to find any reproducibility here. But no, it's completely random. It just stops working.

The hotkey is when F5 key up happens, it launches an Apple shortcut.

Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: macbook pro m5 pro 24gb ram
  • macOS version: tahoe
  • BetterTouchTool version: 6.609

Additional information (e.g. crash logs, related issues, etc.):

I'm toying with "HUD Overlay show when shortcut triggered" and "0.1s delay" which so far seems to somewhat improve the reliability. Which makes me wonder if it's a race condition.

This affected my m1 macbook air too, on an older version of BTT, and that the exact same thing is happening on my new m5 with newest BTT makes me wonder what kind of bug this is.

It's such a simple hotkey too. On key up, run Apple Shortcut. IDK where to look for any error or what failed, or why BTT opens (is that a clue?)

this is a bug Apple has added in a recent macOS version, you can find a workaround here:

I think it is fixed in macOS 26.6

Thank you very much! That terminal command did seem to fix it on macOS 26.5.1.
