with an external display, sometimes it is easy to lose yourself on multiple windows/apps open. I frequently want to change windows and I have alttab to quickly change between windows in one monitor.
The problem is that alttab alternates between the apps in the focused space, and when I want to focus on another monitor I have to grab the mouse and click on a window to then alttab. I searched for a way to focus on the window behind the cursor and found autoraise, but the problem is that it continuously focuses on the window behind the cursor.
TLDR: is there a way to have a keyboard shortcut to focus on the window behind the cursor? Maybe without the needing to click
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, this doesn't quite do the trick. It does bring the focus to the desired app but not to the window. (I've 2 instances of safari open, one in each monitor, when execute the trigger and action, it does bring the safari to the front, but on the monitor that it is already active, not on the desired monitor, so the focus is still on the "wrong" monitor)
Hey @LuiFerreira , glad you found what you were looking for, I'm just curious why this was not working for you since I'm using similar ... workflow? If you are a keyboard guy like me using your mouse/touchpad is not ideal, so I'll just share what works for me - maybe it will be useful for you:
In the system settings for "Desktop & Dock" my Mission control config is as follows:
BTT v5.205
macOS 15.3.1
I read this post, and tried this trigger (for being curious).
The issue of " bring the focus to the desired app but not to the window" only happened to Excel (the only Microsoft app I am using). For all other apps that I am using (not Microsoft's), the tirgger is functioning as expected.
FYI: AutoRaise works on multiple windows (workbooks) Excel.
Ahh appaently certain UI elements in Excel return corrupted / broken Accessibility info when being hovered. I have added a workaround for this in 5.206 alpha (uploading)
Same version here: Excel Version 16.94 (25020927).
Disclaimer: non-issue for me.
Just for the sake of curiosity: the tirgger works for MS Words and Powerpoint, too. Trigger always activate the last-used (clicked) Excel workbook, doesn't work with or without using stage manger, and after reboot. Pehaps some macOS system settings affect that. Will share if I find something new in future.
