Floating Menu sizing

I use a floating menu with the following setup:

  • It is a square with min width and height of 320x320
  • It has 3x3 items. Each item is also a square 100x100
  • I have set 5 as the value for margin left, right, top, and bottom, as well as for vertical and horizontal item spacing

Until ~September, this worked perfectly. However, after updating around then, I saw that my right-most column was not displaying. Upon investigating, I realized that I needed to add 5 pixels to the floating menu size - so 325x325 - to have it fit everything. After doing that, it has an extra margin on the right and at the bottom, which I cannot eliminate.

I am providing a screenshot as well of the right side and the left side for comparison (note that the same pattern is visible on the bottom vs top side).
right side (notice the extra margin):

left side (no extra margin):

This is a very low priority bug imho but reporting for completeness. Note that I am reporting the latest version of BTT below, but I have been experiencing this for ~1 month on a bunch of different versions, both stable and alpha.

  • Type of Mac: MacBook Air M1 2020
  • macOS version: Sonoma 14.5
  • BetterTouchTool version: 4.734 (2024100501)

Thanks for reporting! Could you check whether this is fixed in 4.736 alpha? (uploading now)

Would be

I have the same problem. After an update about two weeks ago, I had to add more width to my floating windows, and now I have no choice but to have more width on the right side.

if please also try 4.736 alpha

yes unfortunately in the preview render I can only use an approximation of the layout algorithm.Glad it’s working in the real menu!

ah and just a note why the layout algorithm got changed: the items can now adapt to the menu width/height if the have different min/max sizes set (depending on the layout)

This turned out to be really important for the upcoming iOS BTT Mobile app

I just installed the new update, and now I'm having a problem. When I trigger my floating menu, it stays on the screen, and the only way to close it is to restart BTT. Where can I find a previous version of BTT to downgrade? i just try the alpha version, and same problem so now im on the 762

Oh could you share that menu setup? There have been some changes on how a menu triggers its actions, that might be related.

You can downgrade to the previous ones via Index of /releases
https://folivora.ai/releases/btt4.757-2024101010.zip should work fine

thanks :pray:t4: i m not sure if its what you need :

could you copy the whole menu here? (select it, press cmd+c, then paste here).
How to you show / hide the menu?

i just hold FN + shift , and release to close it

ah misplaced }, fixed in 4.763, uploading now available in 10 min

Now I can close my floating menu by selecting "Close after button press," but "Close when clicking outside" doesn't work.
