Feature request: "release after drag" action category for normal mouse buttons (Cmd+Tab switcher like TipTap)

Setup: BTT 6.746, macOS 26, Logitech MX Vertical configured through BTT's native Logitech support (top "pointer speed" button diverted, shows up as Button 10).

Goal (the classic Logi Options "gesture button" behaviour): hold the top button and move right → the system ⌘Tab app switcher opens and stays open; further movement or the scroll wheel changes the selection; releasing the button activates the selected app. This is exactly what "Application Switcher" does on the trackpad with a TipTap gesture, where the switcher is finished by the "release last finger" phase.

What already works with a normal mouse button

  • "Application Switcher" (and the "Backward" variant) in the discrete Drag Right / Drag Left categories: the switcher opens and stays open, ⌘ is held by BTT.
  • Continuing to drag re-triggers the category (BTTDragDiscreteRetriggerThreshold), so movement steps through apps. Very nice.
  • The scroll wheel moves the selection by exactly one app per notch.

What is missing: there is no way to finish the switcher when the mouse button is released.

  • Once a discrete drag category has fired, none of the release categories of that button fire any more: Click Release, Quick Click Release and Click Release After Long Hold all stay silent (verified with a HUD action in each of them).
  • The cancellation applies to the whole button press, not just to that trigger: a second trigger for the same Button 10 containing only a Click Release category also does not fire after the drag. It does fire on a plain click.
  • Putting "Application Switcher" into the standard (press) category does not keep the switcher open at all, apparently because a plain button press has no gesture phases like a TipTap.
  • Working around it with "⌘ Key Up" is impossible for the same reason: there is no event to attach it to. Emulating the held modifier by hand (Send Shortcut with "only down / only up") is fragile and once left ⌘ stuck at session level.

Request: an action category for normal mouse buttons along the lines of "Actions Executed On Button Release After Drag", i.e. the mouse equivalent of the trackpad's "Release Last Finger" gestures. Alternatively, an option on the drag categories not to cancel the release categories, or having "Application Switcher" end (release ⌘) on button up when it was started from a mouse drag category.

Repro: Normal Mouse → Button N: Drag Right = "Application Switcher"; Click Release = "Show HUD". Hold the button, move right, release. The switcher stays open, the HUD never shows; pressing ⌘ on the keyboard closes it.

Thanks for the great drag categories work this year, this one small piece would make the mouse behave exactly like the trackpad TipTap setup.

Hi,

this is already on my todo list and should be fixed sometime tomorrow (Window Switcher: Select after Drag - #5 by Volker basically encountered the same)
