F1-F12 keys appearing weirdly in the list of shortcuts

Andreas, BTT is really great, thanks a lot for it. Today I decided to take the time to contribute a really small bug I’ve had for some time.

Describe the bug

Some keys appear weirdly in the list of shortcuts. I believe it might be older ones, so maybe I’ll have to live with it if I don’t want to re-record all of them.

Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):

  • Type of Mac: MBP M2
  • macOS version: Tahoe 26.0.1

Additional information (e.g. crash logs, related issues, etc.):

You can install Apple's SFSymbols app, after that BTT should show some better symbols: SF Symbols - Apple Developer

Great, that works, thank you! It’s quite a large installation (around 700 MB) for some symbols, but maybe I’ll find another use for them. What is surprising that the more recently recorded shortcuts (that already showed up fine before installing the huge package) don’t have the description of the key behind them, and the “old” ones still have it, in addition to the now working icon.

This depends on the key, I added some basic descriptions for these special keys because not everyone can see the symbols due to the SFSymbols limitation.

If you don't want to keep the whole SFSymbols app you can also just keep the special versions of the SF Pro and SF Compact fonts, as soon as the system has them it will render the symbols as far as I know. However it seems like the fonts on their own have about the same size.
