What do you mean by Drag and Drop like in Windows? I'm using Trackpad and drag and drop is working even without BTT. What are you trying to drag and drop? And what happens?

He probably means without the typical delay you have on macOS that lets you continue dragging for a short amount of time after you have released your feature.

It is not possible to get rid of this delay with BTT. Many years ago I tried it because I was also coming from windows, but nowadays I like the macOS behavior much better.

The reasoning behind this macOS feature is to allow continue dragging if you have reached the edge of the trackpad

well, the drag and drop files or anything else by just tapping twice on the trackpad on windows is simple compared to Mac where you can have the same thing by using the 3 fingers but not one finger like in windows. sorry for the misunderstanding.

Ah, that is just a setting you need to enable. It's in System Settings => Accessibility => Pointer Control => Trackpad Options

(Tap to click also needs to be enabled in System Settings => Trackpad)

Hi, yes, the system on Mac is working but not the same way. it is way more complicated to use it as if you do not press the ESC button, it continues holding the selected item or window.

This is why I am asking.

you don’t need esc. Maybe you have activated dragging with drag lock there?

Hi Andreas, thanks for your help here. Unfortunately, Mac offers you the possibility you provided, but the drag & drop is a bit different as it carries on the moving you if you don't press on the trackpad another time which is a bit difficult when you're used to the drag and drop from windows. the 3 fingers uses the same trick on Mac and I was wondering of this existed at all on BTT.
many thanks for your help

it does only carry on for a few hundred milliseconds for the reasons described above, there is no way to workaround that. The exact same as on windows is not available on macOS.

I am sorry, either way whether you lock or unlock the system trackpad options, the result is the same. it stills move with the window even if you let you finger go away from the trackpad. you have to press the window again with the trackpad. this is why I was asking if BTT could do it. thanks anyway for trying to help me there. very much appreciated.

by saying "lock or unlock" I was referring to your option "dragging with drag lock" and I have tried them both. doesn't do the way I was looking for.

but you don’t have to press anything, if you remove your fingers from the trackpad it will stop dragging after a few hundred milliseconds - you don’t need BTT for this

that's exactly what I am trying to explain, if you remove your finger from the trackpad, either solution, the windows carry on moving. if you press again on the trackpad, it releases the window or anything else you have decided to drag and drop or just simply move.

they will continue dragging for a short amount of time then release automatically. There is no way to get around this. But it’s not like they don’t stop dragging at all, you just need to wait ~0.3s

indeed if you wait it works. shame BTT doesn't work on getting more patience... it is a shame they did this but well, at least we have something.

it’s deeply integrated in macOS Drag & Drop and is actually quite useful once you get used to it. Took me also a few weeks when I switched from Windows back in 2009, but now I wouldn’t change it.

I cannot reproduce the problem. I also switched from Windows in 2012 and have the following settings:

And under Accessibility (enable Double-Tap & Hold for dragging):

When I take my finger off the trackpad, Drag & Drop ends after a few milliseconds. The short pause is also quite useful when you reach the edge of the trackpad. This means you can also use Drag & Drop with multiple screens.
The behavior is identical to many Windows trackpads, if not better.

It is, but it can take some time getting used to. I remember I invested quite a bit of time to "fix" this delay in 2009 because I was so used to how my Synaptics Trackpad did it back then and just couldn't stand the way macOS does it. Now I'm so used to the way macOS does it, I couldn't go back to the way my old Windows trackpad did it.

The exact opposite for me: I was enthusiastic about the MacBook trackpad in view of the small Windows trackpads (sometimes without multi-touch gestures) and I particularly liked the pause function right from the start. This is particularly helpful for long distances without having to turn the trackpad speed upwards. I also always mark with the gesture and haven't used a mouse for a long time.

Actually this might now be possible with 4.893 alpha (uploading now).

It needs to be configured like this (1 Finger Tap => Left Click (At Current Mouse Position)". You need to disable tap to click in System Settings if you want to try this.

You can adjust the double tap delay with the slider shown in the screenshot.
