Iv'e been trying simply forever to find a way of closing all open finder windows except the one im in.
when I wish to drop something from a window to an app, I often find a vast number of windows blocking my path, especially on my 13in screen.....
any thoughts anyone?

option+cmd+h hides all windows but the active one, however it also hides all other app windows.
interesting, thank you, though on my machine that combination just "hides" everything else except the application one is already in.
the closest to the behaviour I need is option red dot in top left of finder window... this command closes ALL finder windows. I require similar to that command except keeping the focused window open.....
