Claude App & Move Window One Space Left or Right Actions: Broken

Describe the bug
BTT's "Move Window One Space/Desktop Right" and "... Left" actions do not work with the macOS Claude app (i.e., the basic desktop app, which is on version 1.20186.9 at the moment). This problem has been occurring since I started using the Claude app about six months ago; so it's not new, and is not specific to the current version of the app. Also, these actions work fine with all of the other apps that I have tested on my computer.

I'm not sure if the Claude app's bezel is unique or what exactly is causing the problem. I've tried using the BTT action after changing the Claude's app layout (e.g., opening and closing the sidebar, etc.). But the mouse just doesn't seem to grab onto to the Claude app's window appropriately before switching spaces. Nothing has worked when testing thus far.

In any case, it's a minor bug. But I thought I'd report it, given the popularity of the Claude app. Thanks!

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: MacBook Pro / Apple M3 Pro
  • macOS version: 26.5.2
  • BetterTouchTool version: 6.640

thank you, I'll add support for it!

Thanks @Andreas_Hegenberg! I really appreciate it.

Hi @Andreas_Hegenberg - I'm sorry to bother you about this again, but BTT's most recent update appears to have broken these window/space moving actions for all applications.

The problem started this morning with the update to BTT 6.655 (regular update). I noticed the mouse moving up to the corner of the window, and then jumping all over the place (i.e., without moving the window to the left or right space, etc.). So, I updated to alpha version 6.657 to see if it would fix the problem. Unfortunately, it still persists.

In any case, I just wanted to give you a heads up. Thanks!

ah sorry, I tested some stuff and forgot to disable that again. Will upload a new build in 1-2h

No problem, @Andreas_Hegenberg. It's no big deal. But thanks for looking into it so quickly! I really appreciate it. Cheers!

Should be resolved in 6.659, uploading now. (and claude should now also work)

Thanks @Andreas_Hegenberg ! The alpha 6.659 update just fixed the issue for most apps. Unfortunately, it's still not working for the Claude app though. The cursor now looks like it's clicking/holding the green window button (but still not moving to the next space, etc.). Anyways, it seems to work fine for other apps again. Thanks again for all of your help with everything!

which version of the claude app are you currently on and which view mode are you using?

It mostly seems to work fine here with 0.14.10, however for me the app behaves very strange in general. Dragging the window manually only works in very specific areas, not sure what they are doing :see_no_evil_monkey:

This is how mine looks

Especially if I hide the sidebar, it behaves very strange.

Yeah @Andreas_Hegenberg, I've tried doing various things with the sidebar, but haven't had any luck either. Maybe they should use their own coding agent to fix it? Ha

I'm currently on Version 1.24012.1 (0adcae), which is the most recent version.

ah that might explain it, mine didn't upgrade even though it told me so :joy: I'll re-test with the real current version

Funny how they have so much money but still release buggy electron apps.

Hi @Andreas_Hegenberg - alpha 6.662 appears to be working with the Claude app now, so long as you don't have a conversation open. Once you start a conversation, however, the place where BTT is trying to click/drag becomes populated with the conversation's title (which is an editable field - and why BTT has a hard time trying to click/drag it to another space). The same problem occurs when you're inside a project you've created, as that's where the project's title/text appears (which is also an editable field, etc.).

From your previous screenshot above, it looks like you don't have any chat history/recents, which is why the title text wouldn't have been present when you were testing. If you just ask it a question in the chat window, you should see what I mean. Thanks!

I added a way to override the drag position, maybe you can find something that works well on your machine:

Thanks @Andreas_Hegenberg ! That new app-specific override feature works great!!

I'll keep playing around with it, but with a little adjustment it seems to work just fine with the Claude app now. The only problem that I've noticed is when the sidebar is closed (as there isn't much for it grab onto). But I may just need to do some more testing. Thanks!

If you ever find good defaults, let me know then I'll use them

I do not yet understand the logic claude uses to decide which parts of the window's surface are draggable and which are not.
