Can't hide macOS Control Strip on Catalina

Since updating to Catalina, I have been unable to hide the default macOS Control Strip. I've tried unchecking "Show macOS Control Strip" in the BTT touch bar settings. I tried restarting the app, restarting the mac. I tried removing all the quick action buttons from the TB in system preferences >> extensions, but nothing works.

I can see that the BTT touch bar is operational behind the default macOS Control Strip, I just don't know how to make it show fully. Can someone help please?

hey, you need to go to system preferences -> keyboard and set „touch bar shows -> app controls“
