Hey there,
So recently I've noticed a problem within Messages where if I double click on pics/links/files the icon either greys out or the "reactions" popup activates (I'm not pressing+holding). I thought this was a MacOS beta bug so to troubleshoot I quit BTT and voila! Everything worked like it was supposed to. This has been happening since 5.294, so I updated to Alpha for teh 1st time and that still did not fix my issue. this has never happened before and popped up in the last few weeks. See video below.
M1 Pro - Macbook Pro 14
MacOS 15.4 (latest public beta)
BTT 5.316 (updated to 5.324 while typing this and issue persists)
No triggers show up in "Recent" section while doing this
No triggers are set up for "Messages" app exclusively
Turning off ALL TRIGGERS within BTT does not fix the problem so there's no single trigger I can alienate as the cause of the issue
I use the Trackpad exclusively
weird, that is working fine here.
Does disabling BTT for messages fix it?
yes it does! another thing i noticed is I i just click once there's a signifcant delay until the picture is greyed out vs. when BTT is disabled. so it's almost like the click are delaying being sent to the app.
If i double click a bit slower either nothing happens OR the "reactions" pop up activates meaning messages received a "force click"
While I have you here I want to pick your brain about something. To make a long story short, some website I've encountered REALLY don't like when BTT is running (I use Safari). They lag the entire application (even laptop at times) and work absolutely fine when the BTT is closed/disabled.
This is a very specific example but I can't imagine I'm the only unlucky one experiencing this. So I run Sonarr, Radarr, and Prowlarr on my Raspberry Pi and use subdomains for all of them (not sure if you're familiar with them but I use them to index torrents and grab movies/tv automatically). When I browse the sites everything is absolutely fine.
HOWEVER, if I were to start a search that yields multiple results requiring scrolling (screenshot shows >1k but I swear even if there's <50 this happens) and say I start scrolling or click to sort by size etc., safari will INSTANTLY freeze and activity monitor will spike to 100% CPU for the tab. No matter what I do, how long I wait, how much time I give the tab to load, nothing seems to allevaite this. I resorted to switching to chrome for these specific sites which handles it w/ no issue. If I disable BTT, CPU usage for the Safari tab hovers around ~25%
The screenshot below was taken after loading the website, scrolling/sorting fine, then launched BTT and within 3 seconds tab usage spikes to 100% requiring me to force quit the app. This has been happening for MONTHS but honestly it was so niche that I figured it wasn't worth the post. During this time I have noticed it happening on very random websites that I can't recall off the top of my head.
I'm running other apps on my raspberry via subdomains and these have NO issue so it's not a server side problem.
What's your diagnosis for this? I'm probably nit picking here but I wanted to see what your thoughts are. At this point I've given up on a solution I'm just pulling my hair out trying to figure out WHY this might be happening (chatgpt has been no help
)
Also, long shot I know, but anyway you can disable BTT functions for a specific tab/site? That's the only type of solution I can think of at this point.
it sounds like you might be running into some weird conflict with some other app. Can you think of any other keyboard, mouse or window management related app that is running on your Mac?
Maybe something a bit obscure? (because for popular apps it would probably be known if there was a conflict)
You could try to disable BTT‘s window snapping features in the settings, this is the most likely thing that could cause something like that if there is some lower level conflict. In general BTT should never cause any issues with Safari.
Honestly nothing comes to mind, I've replaced most apps w/ BTT (thank you for that btw!) but I'll be on the look out now that I got an idea where to start looking. Thanks andreas, your work is much appreciated sir!
