m evaluating for 45days the btt program to see if I want to use it. It appears to have some nice features. Although I've already run into a few issues. Key features Im looking at:
ctrl window placement,
some shortcuts using key combos, hoping for advertized right-<modified key support.
mouse, magic mouse enhanced shortcuts. (eventually might get a trackpad)
btt-remote for ipad support (specifially as a simple trackpad. (swipes, and other guestures) and maybe having shortcut buttons (global and maybe by app) to run macros
For shortcuts and window management it doesn’t have features I need. It doesn’t support right-<modifie keys:ctrl,opt,cmd,shift>. I was going to make arrows and numpad to FN keys using karabiner, but alas I cant use this feature. I was going to use it for window placement UL, uR etc. It only support FN1-19. It doesn’t support FN20+, so I can only map 6 keys not enough for numpad. So nstead Im just using rectangle which meets my needs. In fact, Im looking at keyboard maestro app for most of my shortcuts. It has x,y coord clicks and OCR for menu support and ribbon UT suport), and btt cant do these.
I tried a few mouse gestures and they work pretty good, but this one feature isn't enough for me to get the app.
The main feature I want is the btt-remote which won't connect to the evaluation version. I had a chat with chatgpt, and it gave me many suggestions. turn on/off enableing remote, quit/restarting, deleting: ~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool), reinstalling tool on both mac (5.429) and ipad (2.3.1). I also attempted to update to latest btt. I cant get btt remote to connect to btt on my mac. They are both running wifi on same network, no firewall exists on mac. According to chatgpt I should see a IP/port.
When I try to connect I get a page saying:
Get BTT license
How to use better touch tool remote
have a license etc.
Can I not test out btt-remote on an evaluation license. It appears that way. Without testing it I cant make decision on purchasing tool. This remote feature is key for me.
